LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Donna Rosenblum upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2016 Woman of the Year Award by the
Merrick Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Donna Rosenblum has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Donna Rosenb-
lum upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2016 Woman
of the Year Award by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, celebrated at its
81st Annual Installation Dinner held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at
the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, Donna Rosenblum has been a dedicated New York Public Schools
educator for more than 20 years, developing critical thinking and infor-
mation literacy skills in her students as well as fostering student
achievement; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism has been just as important to Donna Rosenblum;
she has volunteered at various school events and served on many commit-
tees, including Shared Decision Making, Staff Development and Middle
States; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Donna Rosenblum has been involved in many
notable volunteer activities including the Adopt-A-Survivor program and
The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County as well as
Reason2Smile; and
WHEREAS, Donna Rosenblum is currently focused on building a library
and community center at the Jambo Jipya School in Kenya; this extraor-
dinary endeavor is being personally financed by this generous woman who
donates her entire salary from her teaching position at Queens College
to this venture; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, Donna Rosenblum received the Louis E. Yavner Award
for education about the Holocaust and other Violations of Human Rights
from the New York State Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Donna Rosenblum has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless educational, civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donna Rosenblum upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2016 Woman of the Year Award by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donna Rosenblum.
