LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Reverend Michael T. Maffeo upon the
occasion of his designation as Knight of the Year by the Knights of
Columbus on January 23, 2016
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Reverend
Michael T. Maffeo upon the occasion of his designation as Knight of the
Year by the Knights of Columbus, to be celebrated at its First Annual
Knights of Columbus Recognition Dinner on Saturday, January 23, 2016, in
the Gymnasium at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Syosset, New York; and
WHEREAS, On March 29, 1882, the Connecticut State Legislature offi-
cially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society;
today, the Order is still true to its founding principles of charity,
unity and fraternity;
WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus was formed to render financial aid to
members and their families; mutual aid and assistance is offered to
sick, disabled and needy members and their families, and social and
intellectual fellowship is promoted among its members and their families
through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief
and public relief works; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Lindenhurst, New York, Michael T. Maffeo faithfully
attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and both Catholic and Public
Schools; after graduation, he earned his Bachelor's degrees in American
History and Secondary Education from Adelphi University, Garden City,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Yearning to be a Social Studies Teacher, Michael T. Maffeo
actively pursued employment in that field; since there were not many
openings he decided to continue his education by receiving his Master's
degree; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his advanced degree, Michael T. Maffeo relo-
cated to Virginia, where he worked for a builder, and obtained a Real
Estate License; after some time, he moved back to Long Island, and began
teaching; and
WHEREAS, Ever since elementary school, Michael T. Maffeo had dreamt of
becoming a Priest; in September of 1986, he entered the Seminary of the
Immaculate Conception; after five years, including a Pastoral Year at
Our Lady of the Snow in Blue Point, he was ordained a Priest in May of
1991; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Michael T. Maffeo's first assignment was St.
Brigid's in Westbury, New York, where he served for five years; follow-
ing that, he was assigned to St. Anthony of Padua in Rocky Point, New
York, where he served for seven years; and
WHEREAS, During his last month in Rocky Point, Reverend Michael T.
Maffeo was approached by the Personnel Director for the Diocese about
becoming the Pastor of St. Joseph's in Ronkonkoma, New York, a position
he held for 11 years; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Michael T. Maffeo then moved on to lead St. Edward
the Confessor, Syosset, New York; today, he proudly and happily minis-
ters to the good people of his congregation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Reverend Michael T. Maffeo upon the occasion of his designation
as Knight of the Year by the Knights of Columbus on January 23, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Michael T. Maffeo.
