LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Benita Zahn upon the occasion of being
named 2015 Resourceful Woman of the Year by the YWCA of the Greater
Capital Region, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Benita Zahn upon the occasion of being named 2015 Resourceful Woman of
the Year by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. to be cele-
brated at its Women's Luncheon Awards on September 30th, 2015 at the
Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1855, the YWCA was created with the intention
of being a safe place for women to improve their lives; over the years,
it has assisted countless female members of the community in reaching
their goals and maintaining self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Today, the YWCA has 25 million members in 122 countries work-
ing every day to fulfill the organization's mission of "eliminating
racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and
dignity for all"; and
WHEREAS, Since 2000, the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region has held
its Women's Luncheon Awards to honor those whose community and profes-
sional pursuits advance the empowerment of women, as well as individuals
who represent the spirit of determination that defines the women of the
YWCA; and
WHEREAS, Benita Zahn is being recognized for her many accomplishments
in making a difference in her community, as well as for her kindness,
support, and generosity; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has gone above and beyond in her profes-
sional career by co-producing and hosting 'Health Link' on WMHT, writing
a 'Live Smart' column for the TIMES UNION, and reporting on numerous
current events on air which have earned her seven Emmy nominations; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping others, Benita Zahn sees the value of
engrossing herself in the local community; she is an emcee at a multi-
tude of nonprofit events and serves on the boards of various organiza-
tions; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Benita Zahn has epitom-
ized the meaning of being a resourceful and accomplished woman in her
professional and personal life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Benita Zahn upon the occasion of being named 2015 Resourceful
Woman of the Year by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc.; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Benita Zahn.
