LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Major Steven A. Nigrelli upon the occa-
sion of being named Commander of New York State Police Troop A

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Major Steven
A. Nigrelli upon the occasion of being named Commander of New York
State Police Troop A; and
WHEREAS, As Commander, Major Steven A. Nigrelli will oversee the State
Police operations in eight counties of Western New York; under his
command will be more than 400 civilian and sworn personnel; and
WHEREAS, He began his illustrious career in 1990, serving as a uniform
trooper until being assigned to the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team
(CNET); as a member of CNET, Major Steven A. Nigrelli worked undercover
in both Western and Central New York, helping to solve narcotics cases;
and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Major Steven A. Nigrelli was promoted to Bureau of
Criminal Investigation (BCI) Captain of Troop A, headquartered in Bata-
via, New York, prior to being promoted to the esteemed position of
Major; and
WHEREAS, Major Steven A. Nigrelli has worked on many high-profile
cases, including homicides, the Ralph "Bucky" Phillips manhunt, and the
Bike Path Rapist/Killer Task Force; in addition, he served as the Scene
Commander for the investigation of the crash of Continental Flight 3407;
and
WHEREAS, A 25 year veteran of the New York State Police, Major Steven
A. Nigrelli is from South Buffalo, and today leads the Troop in charge
of the community where he grew up; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished Trooper comes from a long line of police
officers, with 21 relatives who have served or are currently serving in
the police force; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his prestigious career, Major Steven A.
Nigrelli has given back to the community in which he loves by volunteer-
ing his time and energy to Special Olympics; currently, he serves as
both the New York State Torch Run Director and as a member of the
Special Olympics International Executive Council Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Major Steven A. Nigrelli upon the occasion of being named Comman-
der of New York State Police Troop A; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Major Steven A. Nigrelli.
