LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Police Chief Michael P. Clancy upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 36 years of distinguished
service to the Town of Newburgh Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote them-
selves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in
providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities
and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Police Chief
Michael P. Clancy upon the occasion of his retirement after more than 36
years of distinguished service to the Town of Newburgh Police Depart-
ment; he will officially retire on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, ending a
41-year career in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, A native of the City of Newburgh, New York, Michael P. Clancy
graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, and received degrees from Orange
County Community College and SUNY New Paltz; and
WHEREAS, In August of 1974, Michael P. Clancy began his career as a
police officer with the City of Newburgh; he ably served his community
in this capacity for five years, until moving to the Newburgh Town
Police in September of 1979; and
WHEREAS, During his distinguished career with the Newburgh Town
Police, Officer Michael P. Clancy served in numerous important posi-
tions, including Patrol Officer, Youth Officer, Detective Sergeant and
Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, this esteemed law enforcement officer was appointed
Newburgh Town Police Chief, a role in which he served with loyalty,
honor, and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, Police Chief Michael P.
Clancy was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique
grasp of human problems in his official acts; he has earned the admira-
tion, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Police Chief Michael P. Clancy upon the occasion of his retirement
after more than 36 years of distinguished service to the Town of
Newburgh Police Department, and to wish him all the best in his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Chief Michael P. Clancy.
