LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Officer Andrew Fiorillo upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition by the Huntington Foun-
dation for Excellence in Education

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State with
their strong contributions to the community and model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Officer Andrew Fiorillo upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education;
this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Huntington Founda-
tion's 23rd Annual fundraising Gala on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at
OHEKA Castle in Huntington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1993, the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in
Education (HFEE) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to enhancing
educational opportunities for all students in the Huntington School
District; and
WHEREAS, Officer Andrew Fiorillo has worked as a Suffolk County Police
School Resource Officer (SRO) since May of 2004; currently, he is the
Suffolk County Police SRO assigned to the Huntington School District;
and
WHEREAS, Officer Andrew Fiorillo, widely known around campus as "Offi-
cer Drew", has strived to foster understanding, trust and respect for
the Suffolk County Police Department through his SRO position; he has
successfully defused many potentially negative situations in Huntington
Township; and
WHEREAS, As a regular mentor to at-risk students, Officer Andrew Fior-
illo is the liaison between students and social agencies which involves
interfacing with precinct investigations, enhanced anti-gang initiatives
and the recognition of gang members; and
WHEREAS, Officer Andrew Fiorillo has made presentations on topics
ranging from teenage drug and alcohol abuse to gang violence, and is
always available to parents, administrators, teachers and students as a
resource on just about any topic; and
WHEREAS, A familiar presence at community events and meetings, Officer
Andrew Fiorillo's dedication to duty extends far beyond his scheduled
tours; he has been known to show up at athletic events, school plays,
homecoming activities and even the school prom; and
WHEREAS, During his work with students, Officer Andrew Fiorillo takes
every opportunity to emphasize that "character counts"; he has been
untiring in trying to instill personal confidence and strong character
in the students he encounters each day; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Officer Andrew Fiorillo upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in
Education on February 4, 2016, and to wish him continued success in all
of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Officer Andrew Fiorillo.
