LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Vice Chancellor Anthony S. Bottar for
his 20 years of distinguished service to the New York State Board of
Regents

WHEREAS, It is the practice of the State of New York to recognize those
skilled and dedicated individuals within our midst whose notable profes-
sional and personal accomplishments merit the recognition of their local
communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Vice
Chancellor Anthony S. Bottar for his 20 years of distinguished service
to the New York State Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Bottar, who represents the Fifth Judicial
District (Onondaga County), was first elected to a five-year term on the
New York State Board of Regents, effective April 1, 1996; he was re-e-
lected to three additional five-year terms, effective April 1, 2001,
April 1, 2006 and April 1, 2011; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Vice Chancellor Bottar was elected by his colleagues
to the position of Vice Chancellor of the New York State Board of
Regents; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Board of Regents is comprised of 17
members who are elected by the State Legislature, and each Regent serves
a five-year term without a salary; and
WHEREAS, In this position, Vice Chancellor Bottar has been responsible
for making recommendations and setting educational policy in the State
of New York, from pre-kindergarten through higher education, and for
overseeing the state's 48 licensed professions; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Bottar has also served as the Board of
Regents Chair of the College and Career Preparation Work Group, the
Chair of the P-12 Education Committee, and as a member of the Higher
Education Committee and the Professional Practice Committee; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Bottar graduated from North Syracuse Central
High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University
of Rochester, and a Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law and Jurispru-
dence of the State University of New York at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Anthony Bottar also taught social studies in
the Rochester, New York, area and lectured at the State University of
New York at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Vice Chancellor Bottar has been very involved
with education organizations in his Upstate community; he was Trustee of
the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education from 1988
to 1996, where he served as President of the Board from 1989 to 1996,
and he served as a member of the Onondaga-Madison School Boards Associ-
ation from 1994 to 1996; and
WHEREAS, Along with these endeavors, Vice Chancellor Bottar is also a
practicing senior partner and co-founder of the Bottar Leone law firm in
Syracuse, where he brings nearly 40 years of experience to the pursuit
of cases involving birth injuries, brain injuries, surgical errors,
workplace injury, and much more; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Bottar and his wife reside in North Syracuse;
they are the proud parents of one son, and the loving grandparents of
one grandson; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vice Chancellor Anthony S. Bottar for his 20 years of distin-
guished service to the New York State Board of Regents; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
presented to Vice Chancellor Anthony S. Bottar.
