LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 45th Anniversary of the Pride
Center of the Capital Region on February 5, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
profound impact of those exemplary organizations within the great State
of New York which proactively work for the empowerment of minority
communities, and the importance of such work for the benefit of all
citizens of this State, and indeed, all citizens of the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 45th Anniversary of the Pride Center of the Capital Region, to
be celebrated on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at The Linda, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Based in Albany, New York, the Pride Center is dedicated to
serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer identified
people (LGBTQ) community in the Capital Region, and has been meeting the
needs of LGBTQ people in a 10 county region since 1970; and
WHEREAS, As the oldest continuously-operating LGBTQ community center
in the country, the Pride Center has tirelessly worked to build a
welcoming community characterized by dignity, inclusivity and compassion
for all people; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Pride Center promotes the
well-being of all LGBTQ individuals, as well as those discriminated
against based on gender identity and expression; and
WHEREAS, Advocating for equality and justice, the Pride Center facili-
tates empowerment, enrichment and self-expression within the community;
and
WHEREAS, For more than four decades, the Pride Center has been commit-
ted to the advancement of the Capital Region as a place where LGBTQ
individuals can thrive; and
WHEREAS, Our society is greatly benefited by the purposeful efforts of
individuals who unite for the cause of improving the quality of life for
others, and who proactively work toward the goal of dignity for all;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 45th Anniversary of the Pride Center of the Capital
Region on February 5, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Pride Center of the Capital Region.
