LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Shawn Burke upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Scholarship Award by the Major
General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the young
adults of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character and achievements
best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shawn Burke upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2016 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter
of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the 18th Annual
Tuition Assistance Program on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Anthony's
Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Monticello High School, Shawn Burke serves as
President of both the Monticello High School Student Council and Debate
Team; in addition, he is the student member of the Monticello School
District Board; and
WHEREAS, With a passion for music, Shawn Burke has played the viola
for eight years, has been a member of the school's orchestra for two
years, is the resident violist in the Aspiring Young Musicians program,
and serves as the violist for St. Joseph's Church in his hometown of
Wurtsboro; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary young man has been a member of the Tuske-
gee Airmen Chapter's Red Tail Youth Flying Program for six years, and is
currently the Commander of the 21-student unit; and
WHEREAS, Shawn Burke plans to attend college to study political
science as well as history, followed by law school, and ultimately a
career in politics; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his high school career, Shawn Burke has displayed
exceptional academic achievement, a strong sense of community responsi-
bility, and a commitment to excellence which is unparalleled; and
WHEREAS, Shawn Burke, in achieving this academic honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, community and school; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shawn Burke upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and to extend to him best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shawn Burke.
