LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring George E. Nealon posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County
at its Honor-A-Veteran Ceremony on November 2, 2015
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
George E. Nealon posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Veteran Ceremony
which was celebrated on Monday, November 2, 2015; and
WHEREAS, George E. Nealon was born on November 19, 1947, in Albany,
New York; and
WHEREAS, From January of 1968 to August of 1969, George E. Nealon
proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps
during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous decorations for his outstanding
military service, George E. Nealon was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat
Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,
and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, as well as the
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and
WHEREAS, Upon separating from the military with the esteemed rank of
corporal, George E. Nealon earned his Bachelor's degree from SUNY Alba-
ny, and his Masters of Business Administration from the Lally School of
Management; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious career, George E. Nealon worked as a
Marketing Manager for Landfill Technologies, and was Public Works
Commissioner for both the City of Albany and Albany County; and
WHEREAS, In his free time, George E. Nealon enjoyed building and
flying model airplanes, playing the banjo, and refurbishing older cars;
and
WHEREAS, A vital part of his community, George E. Nealon was a proud
member of the Albany County Honor-A-Vet Committee, Captain William Dale
O'Brien Marine Corps League Detachment, Tri-County Council of Vietnam
Veterans, Military Order of Devil Dogs, Fort Orange American Legion
Post, and Barbarina-Mazarakos American Legion Post; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, George E. Nealon was a loving husband to his
wife, Cyra, and a caring father to his two children, Matthew and Mary;
and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor George E. Nealon posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Veteran
Ceremony on November 2, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of George E. Nealon.
