LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lois Smith-Law posthumously upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Capital District Women's Employment and Resource Center
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who made significant
contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which enhanced the basic humanity among us
all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lois Smith-Law
posthumously upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Women's Employment
and Resource Center; this momentous occasion was celebrated during its
Luncheon on October 6, 2015, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The Capital District Women's Employment and Resource Center
(WERC) is a private, not-for-profit organization that works to advance
women's success in the workplace by building their economic and personal
independence; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1988, WERC has provided quality workforce
development services to more than 6,700 women from both Albany and Rens-
selaer Counties who have lost their source of income upon the death,
divorce, separation, disability, or dislocation of a spouse or who are
single mothers; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annu-
ally to a woman who has lived her life with passion and who truly
embraced WERC's mission to help others throughout her career; and
WHEREAS, Lois Smith-Law had an expansive and distinguished career
working in business management, marketing and development for Kmart's
automotive and sporting goods department, Manpower, Metroplex, and
Mildred Elley; she ended her illustrious career at Deily & Glastetter,
LLP as the Director of Operations; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast and unremitting advocate for women in both their
personal and professional lives, Lois Smith-Law understood the impor-
tance of diversity in the workplace; she was also an active member of
the Capital Region Human Resource Association and a supporter of the
Capital District Women's Employment Resource Center; and
WHEREAS, Lois Smith-Law passed away in April of 2015, after a long and
courageous battle with breast cancer; she is remembered for all of the
lives she has touched, her professional and personal achievements, and
her enthusiasm for women in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lois Smith-Law displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lois Smith-Law posthumously upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District
Women's Employment and Resource Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Lois Smith-Law.
