LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Albert Wisner Public Library upon
the occasion of being named the 2016 Best Small Library in America by
the LIBRARY JOURNAL

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Albert Wisner Public Library upon the occasion of being named the
2016 Best Small Library in America by the LIBRARY JOURNAL, one of the
oldest trade publications of the library community; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Director Rosemary Cooper,
the Albert Wisner Public Library is the first library in New York State
to receive this esteemed honor; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation, comes with a substantial cash prize, and is conferred once a
year to libraries serving populations of less than 25,000 people; and
WHEREAS, The LIBRARY JOURNAL proudly recognized the Albert Wisner
Public Library, in Warwick, New York, for its modernization efforts,
leadership in transforming its community, its engaged public, and the
creative acquisition and introduction of technology and programming to
serve varying needs of its patrons; and
WHEREAS, The Albert Wisner Public Library, which serves 23,647 resi-
dents, is widely recognized as Warwick's center for low-cost or free
entertainment and activities such as Art Matters, featuring an artist of
the month, the Warwick Children's Book Festival, the Warwick Cafe Read-
ing Project, and the Acting for a Change Senior Improv Acting Group; and
WHEREAS, The sparkling success enjoyed by the Albert Wisner Public
Library is in direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals
who have supported the development of the library over the years; and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable are the Albert Wisner Public Library's
superbly skilled staff, whose involvement is and has always been charac-
terized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all of their efforts on behalf
of the library and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Albert
Wisner Public Library may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as
it looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Albert Wisner Public Library upon the occasion of being
named the 2016 Best Small Library in America by the LIBRARY JOURNAL; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rosemary Cooper, Director, Albert Wisner Public Library.
