LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Earned
Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day to be celebrated on January 29,
2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commemorate the
10th Anniversary of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day to be
celebrated on Friday, January 29, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Each year, IRS invites community organizations, elected offi-
cials, state and local governments, schools, employers, and others in a
national grassroots effort to spotlight the Earned Income Tax Credit on
EITC Awareness Day; and
WHEREAS, EITC Awareness Day is a joint venture between IRS and its
many partners and stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, Intensive media coverage helps to reach the broadest possible
range of eligible taxpayers, including the underserved populations and
the newly eligible taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, EITC can increase a federal tax refund from $1 to $6,242 for
qualified taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, IRS estimates four of five, or 80%, of eligible taxpayers
claim and get this important credit; it helps to ensure the remaining
20% receives the EITC they earned; and
WHEREAS, EITC is a financial boost for working people and the local
economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
Awareness Day to be celebrated on January 29, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to IRS, and its many partners and stakeholders.
