LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Marion E. Rohner, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Marion E. Rohner of Port Jervis, New York died on Monday,
January 25, 2016, at the age of 98; and
WHEREAS, Born November 30, 1917, to the late George and Mildred
Berthiaume in Middletown, New York, Marion E. Rohner married James W.
Rohner, Sr. on January 29, 1939, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in
Port Jervis; the couple was married for 22 years prior to his death on
July 30, 1961; and
WHEREAS, Marion E. Rohner distinguished herself in her profession and
by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; and
WHEREAS, Vice President of Berthiaume's Neversink Lumber Co., Inc.,
Marion E. Rohner also served as the Secretary for the Harry Silver Law
Firm earlier in her life; and
WHEREAS, Marion E. Rohner's commitment to excellence, and her spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Marion E. Rohner was a lifelong
member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Port Jervis and a 61-year
member of the Catholic Daughters of The Americas Court Madonna No. 114,
where she served as Past Grand Regent; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she was also a religious education teacher at
St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of both Kindergarten and Seventh
Grade, and an instructor for the Parvuli Dei (Cub Scout) Church Award;
and
WHEREAS, Affectionatly known to many as "Nan" or "Nana", Marion E.
Rohner truly touched the lives of many; for more than 50 years she was a
Cub Scout Den Mother for hundreds of local youth, many of which were
second generation; and
WHEREAS, In 1978, Marion E. Rohner was honored with the Citizen of the
Year Award recognizing her many years of community service; in 2001, she
was placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the "longest serv-
ing Cub Scout Den Mother", and a New York State historical marker was
placed at her home; in 2009, she was inducted in the Port Jervis Alumni
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen; great grandson, Joseph
Jr.; sister, Regina; daughter-in-law, MaryAnn, Marion E. Rohner is
survived by one son; James Jr. (Luverne); grandchildren: William, James
III (Tracie), Matthew, Vincent Jr. (Suzanne), Joseph (Lisa), Marianne
(Ignacio), Jean (Earl), Shawn (Candice); 15 great-grandchildren:
Vincent III, Scott, Sarah, Patrick, Ashley, Zachary, Brenna, Elena,
Joshua, Nicholas, Christopher, Daniel, Kelsey, Kristen, and Shawn Jr.;
nine great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Vincent Sr.; and several
nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Marion E. Rohner leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Marion E. Rohner, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Marion E. Rohner.
