LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kenyetta Zackery upon the occasion of
her designation as the 2015 Woman of Inspiration by the YWCA of the
Greater Capital Region, Inc.
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kenyetta Zack-
ery upon the occasion of her designation as the 2015 Woman of Inspira-
tion by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc.; this momentous
occasion was celebrated at its Resourceful Women's Luncheon Awards on
September 30, 2015, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The YWCA was created with the intentions of being a safe
place for women to launch a new start; through this vital organization's
continued determination, the YWCA is able to assist these women in
reaching their goals and maintaining self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, Since 2000, the YWCA of the Capital Region has held an award
ceremony to honor those whose community and professional pursuits
advance the empowerment of women, as well as individuals who represent
the spirit of determination which defines the women of the YWCA; and
WHEREAS, Kenyetta Zackery is being recognized with this auspicious
honor for exemplifying the true meaning of self-determination and
triumphing over adversity; and
WHEREAS, Coming to the YWCA as a teenage mother and high school drop-
out in need of a change in her life, Kenyetta Zackery seized the oppor-
tunity to enroll in the YWCA Jamison-Rounds Ready for Work Program from
which she graduated in July of 2014; and
WHEREAS, Kenyetta Zackery has been successfully implementing her
JR-RFW Five Year Plan by earning her GED, receiving her PCA/Home Health
Aide Certificate, working as a PCA and attending Hudson Valley Community
College; in addition, she lost 117 pounds; and
WHEREAS, Upon her college graduation, Kenyetta Zackery plans to work
with victims of domestic violence and aid homeless families; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Kenyetta Zackery has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kenyetta Zackery upon the occasion of her designation as the 2015
Woman of Inspiration by the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc.;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kenyetta Zackery.
