LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Sharon Brangman upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2016 F.O.C.U.S. Wisdom Keeper Award
by F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality of life in the communities across this great State of New York
is enriched by the diligence and compassionate commitment of those indi-
viduals whose singular purpose is the care and welfare of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Sharon Brangman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2016 Wisdom Keeper Award by F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse to be celebrated
at its 7th Annual F.O.C.U.S. Wisdom Keeper Event on Wednesday, April 6,
2016, at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center, Syracuse, New York;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is annually bestowed upon a citizen who
has shown leadership, continual caring and an understanding of the
importance of the vision for tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Brangman, M.D. has exemplified these characteristics
through her tireless work educating, researching, and providing clinical
care and healthy living to improve the quality of life for current resi-
dents and future generations; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon Brangman is an inspiration, role model, advocate
and teacher who guides patients, doctors, caregivers, health care
professionals, medical students, and citizens in the process of aging
gracefully in good mental and physical health; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Sharon Brangman is Chief of the Division of Geriatrics at
Upstate Medical University, nationally recognized by professional geria-
trics organizations, and recently honored by SUNY Chancellor Nancy
Zimpher as a Distinguished Service Professor; and
WHEREAS, As a nationally recognized and locally revered geriatrician
and researcher, Dr. Sharon Brangman serves the older population of
Central New York with great humanity, practicality and holistically; as
a former president of the American Geriatrics Society, she led the
organization to recognize that the aging process includes the interre-
lationship of aging, ethnicity, race, and faith; and
WHEREAS, She is compassionate about serving her community and quietly,
but significantly, she has touched the lives of these residents, giving
them the tools to lead healthy, productive and meaningful lives in their
senior years; and
WHEREAS, Along with her clinical practice at University Hospital, Dr.
Sharon Brangman is also Director of the CNY Alzheimer's Disease Assist-
ance Center and Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship; she is
the former President of the Medical Staff, serving from 2001 - 2010, and
was a member of the Medical Executive Committee for 16 years; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Sharon Brangman serves as President of the
Association of Geriatrics Academic Program Directors, is a member of an
advisory board for geriatrics and gerontology for the Department of
Veteran Affairs, has been an adviser to the Robert Wood Johnson Founda-
tion, and was an expert panelist for the White House Conference on
Aging; furthermore, she is a sought after speaker locally and
nationally; and
WHEREAS, F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse is a citizens' engagement organ-
ization that produces citizen-driven studies that embody citizen
empowered voices; it encourages residents to participate in learning
about, and having a voice in issues which affect their quality of life,
today and into the future; and
WHEREAS, F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse promotes intelligent decision-
making, creative, collaborative problem solving and meaningful inter-
action between citizens, organizations and government; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and responsibil-
ities, Dr. Sharon Brangman continuously displays initiative and an unre-
lenting commitment when pursuing the highest of goals, and she has
served as a role model of leadership to be emulated by all; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Sharon Brangman upon the occasion of her designation as recip-
ient of the 2016 F.O.C.U.S. Wisdom Keeper Award by F.O.C.U.S. Greater
Syracuse; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Sharon Brangman.
