LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Matthew Bender IV upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by Partners for Albany Stories
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Matthew Bender IV has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Matthew
Bender IV upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by Partners for Albany Stories to be celebrated on Monday, February 29,
2016, at the Shaker Heritage Society in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Partners for Albany Stories (PASt) is a collaboration among
historical and cultural organizations in the Capital Region with a
mission to explore compelling local stories about Albany's vital role in
the development of New York State and our Nation; and
WHEREAS, Matthew Bender IV is being honored for his leadership and
unwavering commitment as co-Chair of the Heritage Tourism Advisory Coun-
cil, and for his involvement in the recently drafted City of Albany
Heritage Tourism Plan and the new publication, "A Heritage Guide to the
Historic Capital City on the Hudson: Albany New York"; and
WHEREAS, A proud Albany native, Matthew Bender IV is a respected
philanthropist and local icon who has contributed greatly over the past
several decades to the development of the arts, culture, historical
preservation, and medical institutions in his community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man is the founder of numerous civic and
regional institutions including the Historic Albany Foundation where he
was a member of its Board of Directors for many years, and served as its
first President; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Matthew Bender IV serves as Chair of both the
Bender Family Foundation and the State Commission of the Restoration of
the Capitol; he also continues to serve on such boards as the Preserva-
tion League of New York State and Albany Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, With a dedication to highlighting pivotal events in Albany's
history, Matthew Bender IV has played a vital role in publishing such
books as CAPITOL STORY, ARCHITECTS IN ALBANY and ALBANY ARCHITECTURE
BOOK; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Matthew Bender IV has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to excellence, certainly have earned the recogni-
tion and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Matthew Bender IV upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Partners for Albany Stories; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew Bender IV.
