LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Shashwat Patel upon the occasion
of winning the 2016 Orange-Ulster BOCES Spelling Bee on February 1, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Shashwat Patel upon the occasion of winning the 2016 Orange-Ulster
BOCES Spelling Bee on Monday, February 1, 2016, at BOCES' Gibson Hill
Campus in Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, A two-time champion, 13-year-old Shashwat Patel is an eighth
grade student at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School, Central Valley, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This astute young scholar won by correctly spelling "autop-
sy", defeating 19 of the best spellers from 11 school districts through-
out the region; in winning, Shashwat Patel has once again earned the
honor of competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee from May 22-28,
2016, in Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Supported by his loving parents, Sudashima Naik and Prasanta
Patel, Shashwat Patel has been ably coached by Kristine Mirenda, a
skilled and inspirational tutor who has helped to develop his potential
into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Shashwat Patel, in achieving this high honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, school and region; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this scholar
now stands honorably, in eager anticipation of future challenges, under-
standing and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by his
teachers and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Shashwat Patel upon the occasion of winning the 2016
Orange-Ulster BOCES Spelling Bee on February 1, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shashwat Patel.
