LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Brenden O'Flaherty upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the 2015 Class A Scholar Athlete
of the Year Award by the New York State High School Football Coaches
Association
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplish-
ments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Brenden O'Flaherty upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2015 Class A Scholar Athlete of the Year Award by the New
York State High School Football Coaches Association to be celebrated at
an Awards Dinner on Friday, February 5, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Brenden O'Flaherty has distin-
guished himself as a young man of superlative ability, talent, and matu-
rity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement, purposeful-
ness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Cornwall High School, this esteemed young man has
made significant contributions to his team as wide receiver and free
safety on the Cornwall Green Dragons Football Team during the 2015
season; in addition, he helped lead his team to its fifth consecutive
Section 9 Class A Title, while making third-team All-State with 52
catches for 909 yards and 10 touchdowns; and
WHEREAS, Scholastically, Brenden O'Flaherty holds a 99.2 weighted
grade point average and ranks third in his class of 277 students at
Cornwall High School; he also tutors chemistry, biology, and SAT prep
courses and volunteers in his community; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Brenden has
brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable Student Athlete may stand with pride in his
achievements, experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of
his accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences in
his future; and
WHEREAS, Brenden O'Flaherty's hard work and determination represents
the potential inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; this
Legislative Body is pleased to honor this young man, recognizing his
achievements and the promise of his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Brenden O'Flaherty upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2015 Class A Scholar Athlete of the Year Award by the
New York State High School Football Coaches Association, and to wish him
well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brenden O'Flaherty.
