LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Anderson Wise, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Anderson Wise, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community, on December 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Anderson Wise is remembered as a mentor, role model and
community leader across Northern New York where he raised his family and
founded one of the region's leading law firms; and
WHEREAS, Anderson Wise, son of the late New York State Senator Henry
Wise, graduated from Virginia Military Institute and the University of
Virginia Law School, and served in the United States Army, rising to the
rank of Captain; and
WHEREAS, Anderson Wise founded Schwerzmann & Wise P.C., one of the
North Country's leading law firms, concentrating in business, real
estate, and trusts and estate planning and administration, and including
among its clients, the Thousand Island Bridge Authority and the Water-
town Savings Bank; and
WHEREAS, He also served the people of the State of New York as assist-
ant counsel to New York State Senate Majority Leader Warren Anderson;
and
WHEREAS, Anderson Wise gave generously to many charitable organiza-
tions, and for more than 20 years, served as a member of the Board of
Directors for the Northern New York Community Foundation, as well as its
President for many years, helping to educate the people of the North
Country about the agency's importance and the role it could play in
making a difference across the region; and
WHEREAS, He was also an active member and officer in the Ives Hill
Golf and Country Club and the Black River Valley Club; and
WHEREAS, Above all else, Anderson was an individual who cherished his
family and will be fondly remembered as a loving son, brother, husband,
father of four sons, R. Halsey Wise, Mark Jennings Wise, David Anderson
Wise and Graham Douglas Wise, and grandfather; and
WHEREAS, He leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the passage
of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served and
befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Anderson Wise, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of the Greater Watertown community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Anderson Wise.
