LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Martin Cox upon the occasion of
being named Superintendent of the Clarkstown School District
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Martin Cox upon the occasion of being elected as Superintendent of
the Clarkstown School District; and
WHEREAS, Martin Cox earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication from
Ohio University; he furthered his education by obtaining his Master's
degree in Elementary Education from Nazareth College and his Certificate
of Advanced Study (CAS) from the State University of New York at Brock-
port; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Martin Cox is a graduate of the Transition to
Superintendency Program and was a participant in the Cycles of Success
mentoring program; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his advanced degrees, Martin Cox held the
position of Elementary Principal, and then High School Principal; and
WHEREAS, From 2009-2012, Martin Cox served as Superintendent of the
Fillmore Central School District; he then moved on to hold the title of
Superintendent of the Sodus Central School District; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2016, Martin Cox will assume the title of Super-
intendent of the Clarkstown School District; well-liked, he was chosen
from a long list of candidates due to his inspirational qualities and
his ability to bring out the best qualities of other people; and
WHEREAS, In this new role, Martin Cox will be leading a high-perform-
ing district with 8,400 students across 16 different buildings; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his educational career, Martin Cox has worked
as a Radio-TV broadcaster, television sports anchor in both California
and Texas, and was the announcer for a Class A baseball team affiliated
with the California Angels; and
WHEREAS, Superintendents like Martin Cox provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Martin Cox has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth of
the State of New York, and accordingly merits recognition and applause
for his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Martin Cox upon the occasion of being named Superintendent
of the Clarkstown School District, and to wish him well in his new posi-
tion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Martin Cox.
