LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Sage Colleges upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the Organization of Excellence Award by
the Oakwood Cemetery on October 22, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Sage Colleges upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
Organization of Excellence Award by the Oakwood Cemetery celebrated at
its 14th Annual Evening at the Earl on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at
the Gardner Earl Chapel, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award is given to an institution for their
outstanding contributions to our great Nation and the entire World; the
Sage Colleges are being recognized for their commitment to raising and
applying knowledge and service to its graduates; and
WHEREAS, The Sage Colleges are composed of four separate entities
including Russell Sage College, Sage College of Albany, School of
Professional and Continuing Education, and the Sage Graduate Schools;
and
WHEREAS, In 1916, Russell Sage College of Troy, New York, was estab-
lished by Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage in honor of her late husband; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage became involved in the Women's
Suffrage Movement and partnered with Eliza Kellas, the head of the Emma
Willard School, to offer education to women to prepare them for inde-
pendent careers; and
WHEREAS, In 1949, an Albany division of the Sage Colleges was opened;
both men and women were offered two year, four year and graduate
degrees; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, the Sage Colleges celebrated their Centennial Anni-
versary; throughout its 100 year history, this vital educational insti-
tution has stood proud and prominent, always looking to the future and
the needs of those it serves; and
WHEREAS, With great admiration, this Legislative Body is proud to pay
tribute to the Sage Colleges which stands at the threshold of the future
with its legacy of outstanding achievements and its impressive body of
distinguished alumni; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Sage Colleges upon the occasion of its designation as recipi-
ent of the Organization of Excellence Award by the Oakwood Cemetery on
October 22, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Sage Colleges.
