LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Women's Global Giving Circle upon
the occasion of its designation as recipient of the Excellence in Lead-
ership Award by the Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc. on September 19,
2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Women's Global Giving Circle upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by the Flora E. Kippins
Foundation, Inc. celebrated at its Second Annual Gala on Saturday,
September 19, 2015, at the Desmond Americana, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award has been bestowed upon the Women's
Global Giving Circle for its passion for making a difference in the
lives of oppressed girls and women around the World through education
and financial donations; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, the Women's Global Giving Circle was established by
Barbara Glaser after she attended a presentation by Nicholas Kristof and
Sheryl Wedunn regarding a book they had written on oppression for women
around the World; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Global Giving Circle held their first meeting in
March of 2010, with 25 founding members, all from diverse backgrounds;
it was instituted that each member commit to four meetings a year and to
bring at least five dollars to the meeting; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Global Giving Circle requests that each member of
the group make presentations at the meetings to teach others about a
project or organization which they connect with, allowing other members
to learn about the issue and have an opportunity to make a donation to
that specific mission; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Global Giving Circle will initially accept the
donations to the different nonprofits and then will review the selected
nonprofits' legal and financial viability to ensure the funds are sent
to good standing organizations; and
WHEREAS, Since 2010, the Women's Global Giving Circle has donated
$70,400 in grants to 33 different initiatives in over 16 countries; the
generous members of this vital organization have become informed donors,
learned about world issues and have become a part of a community who are
thinking globally and acting locally; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Women's Global Giving Circle upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by the Flora
E. Kippins Foundation, Inc. on September 19, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Women's Global Giving Circle.
