LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara Mann upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Schechter School of Long
Island on March 31, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Mann has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Barbara Mann
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Schechter School of Long Island to be celebrated at its 2016 Gala Home-
coming held on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Old Westbury Hebrew
Congregation in Old Westbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Mann has been an ardent supporter of the Schechter
School of Long Island (SSLI) for many years, and has distinguished
herself in service to both the school and the overall community; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is one of the founders of the Solomon
Schechter Day School of Suffolk County, and has ably served as President
of the PA, Chair of the Education Committee, and President of the Board;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Barbara Mann is a founder of the Breira B'Ramah
Program, which allows children with special needs to enjoy the Ramah
Berkshires experience; currently, she serves as the Coordinator of
Student Services at SSLI; and
WHEREAS, Barbara and her husband, Charlie, are the proud parents of
four children, Benjamin (Aliza), Rachel (Joshua), Jeremy (Suzan), and
Yona, and the loving grandparents of eight grandchildren, all of whom
are current, former or future Schechter students; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Barbara Mann has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Barbara Mann has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara Mann upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Schechter School of Long Island; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara Mann.
