LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph P. Kummer, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph P. Kummer of Calverton Meadows, New York, died on
January 20, 2016, at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Joseph P. Kummer's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, From January of 2008 until June of 2014, Joseph P. Kummer
served as President of the Mobile/Manufactured Homeowners Association
(MMHOA) Suffolk, Inc.; he implemented the name change from Mobile Home-
owners Association of Suffolk, Inc. to the current MMHOA; he also served
as a Trustee in 2007; and
WHEREAS, Joseph P. Kummer's tireless efforts were recognized when a
Bill was passed in the State of New York for Right of First Refusal that
land owners could only raise the rent once a year and if the property
was sold, they could not change the usage of the land for five years; he
continuously fought for unreasonable rent increases; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was always there to help those in need in
his community of Calverton Meadows as well as the many members of MMHOA;
he was the voice of the MMHOA and treated each member as the most
special member of the organization; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jean, and his son-in-
law, Jim Goodman; Joseph P. Kummer is survived by two daughters, Susan
Goodman and Kathy Megara (Peter) Coscia; and five grandchildren, Matt
Goodman, Kristy Goodman, Beth Goodman, Paul Megara and Michelle Megara;
as well as two great-grandchildren, Camryn Goodman and Cassidy Goodman;
and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joseph P. Kummer leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph P. Kummer, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the children of Joseph P. Kummer.
