LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Honorable Florence Monwe upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by the National
Action Network, West Nassau Chapter, on April 17, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Judge Florence Monwe has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Honor-
able Florence Monwe upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the National Action Network, West Nassau Chapter, to be
celebrated at its 3rd Annual Women's Prestigious Gala Awards Dinner held
on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Chateau Briand Caterers in Carle
Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, The National Action Network's Annual Women's Prestigious Gala
Awards Dinner recognizes outstanding individuals who demonstrate excel-
lence in their work, service, and commitment to the Jewish, Nigerian,
Caribbean, Spanish, Haitian and American communities; and
WHEREAS, The West Nassau Chapter, under the able leadership of
District Chairperson, Pastor Emmanuel Asse, continues the mission of NAN
which fulfills a vital role in moving our Nation forward; and
WHEREAS, A proud native of Nigeria, Florence Monwe is the daughter of
Chief Benjamin and Felicia Emebo; after attending an all-girls high
school, she studied Law at the University of Nigeria where she graduated
in June of 1987, and subsequently, passed the Nigerian Bar examination;
and
WHEREAS, In June of 1991, Florence Monwe emigrated to the United
States and met her husband, Lawrence; after starting a family, she
worked as a caseworker in the Foster Care Department of the New York
City Administration for Children Services; and
WHEREAS, With a passion for both the law and helping others, Florence
Monwe passed the New York State Bar examination in 1998, and was called
to the Bar in 1999; she also began volunteering at the New York State
Legal Aid Society to help those who could not afford legal counsel; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Florence Monwe was appointed by the New York State
Office of Children and Family Services to the esteemed position of
Administrative Law Judge for Child Abuse and Maltreatment cases; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Judge Florence Monwe has displayed a
keen sense of duty and and a unique grasp of human problems; she has
received numerous honors and accolades for her exceptional service; and
WHEREAS, Judge Florence Monwe has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; a passionate community activist,
she was appointed First Deputy Chairwoman of the West Nassau Chapter and
is the Chief Executive and Chairperson of its Chapter Executive Board
Committee; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Lawrence, and
their three children, Raluchukwu, Jachike and Chukwuemeka, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, During the entire period of her community service, a period
of constructive involvement, Judge Florence Monwe has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Judge Florence Monwe has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Honorable Florence Monwe upon the occasion of her desig-
nation for special recognition by the National Action Network, West
Nassau Chapter; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Florence Monwe.
