LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Doug Mills upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Community Leadership Award by the Eden
II & Genesis Foundation Board of Trustees
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Doug Mills
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Community Lead-
ership Award by the Eden II & Genesis Foundation Board of Trustees, to
be celebrated at its Annual Casino Royale Event on Thursday, April 7,
2016, at The Carltun, East Meadow, New York; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Merrick, New York, Doug Mills began
working in the back shop of the Printing Emporium at the age of 14 as a
printer's apprentice, learning the trade from the ground up; just five
years later, he owned the business; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Doug Mills has worked intensely
to grow his business; in addition, he has displayed an unwavering
commitment to the growth and prosperity of his community; and
WHEREAS, Doug Mills is actively involved in both the Merrick Kiwanis
Club and the Chamber of Commerce; as Chamber President in 1991, this
esteemed man founded the Merrick Fall Festival which attracts 10,000 to
20,000 visitors annually; and
WHEREAS, Director of the Nassau County Law Enforcement Explorers, Doug
Mills is also a steadfast supporter of the Nassau County Coalition
Against Domestic Violence, and the Eden Foundation, an East Meadow-based
organization that aids children with autism; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Doug Mills gives of his time and energy to Let
All the Children Play, an organization which builds playgrounds to
accommodate children with physical disabilities, as well as the Women's
Sports Foundation, an organization established in 1974 to increase
women's participation in athletics; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Marsha, and their two
sons, Gregory and Matthew, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Doug Mills has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Doug Mills upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Community Leadership Award by the Eden II & Genesis Foundation Board
of Trustees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Doug Mills.
