LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Chief Randy Stone upon the occasion of
his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to the Plattsburgh
City Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Chief Randy Stone
upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service
to the Plattsburgh City Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, For the past 35 years, Chief Randy Stone has rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service as a member of the Plattsburgh
City Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Randy Stone began his illustrious career with the Plattsburgh
City Fire Department on September 15, 1980; he served courageously as a
firefighter for 17 years, and spent 12 years assigned to the ambulance,
followed by three years as Lieutenant, seven years as Captain and four
years as Assistant Chief; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Randy Stone took over as Acting Chief and two years
later, was officially promoted to the Department's highest position as
full Chief; and
WHEREAS, Chief Randy Stone initially joined the department partly due
to it was a family affair; his father was a firefighter, retiring in
1991 as an Assistant Chief, and he had an uncle and a cousin who were
both firefighters; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Carrie, and their
daughter, Mya, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Chief Randy Stone served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of
duty; he has earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters and fire departments not only provide the crit-
ical service of fire protection but also engage in other activities of
great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Chief
Randy Stone is such a firefighter; throughout his 35 years of devoted
service, this firefighter heroically performed, above and beyond the
call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Chief Randy Stone upon the occasion of his retirement after 35
years of dedicated service to the Plattsburgh City Fire Department, and
to wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Randy Stone.
