LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sonny Bonacio upon the occasion of being
named the 2016 ChangeMaker by the Capital Region Chamber
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Sonny Bonacio has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sonny Bonacio
upon the occasion of being named the 2016 ChangeMaker by the Capital
Region Chamber to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Thursday, March
10, 2016, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Capital Region Chamber helps build a stronger community
by connecting its members to people, businesses and issues important to
New York's Capital Region; it provides leadership and resources to
assist 2,800 businesses and organizations from throughout Albany, Sche-
nectady, Rensselaer and Saratoga counties and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Sonny Bonacio is being honored for his vision, leadership,
and community investment which has helped transform the Capital Region;
and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs, New York, Sonny
Bonacio is a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, and earned his
bachelor's degree from SUNY Canton; and
WHEREAS, Since 1989, Sonny Bonacio has served as Owner and President
of Bonacio Construction, Inc. while also playing a vital role in his
community; and
WHEREAS, Sonny Bonacio has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; he has ably served as a member of the Saratoga
Builders Association, the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors Executive Committee, and the Saratoga Regional YMCA Board of
Trustees; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, Sonny Bonacio was a
former member of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Board of Direc-
tors, the Saratoga Springs Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance Development
Committee, the Saratoga Springs Traffic Committee, Saratoga Springs
Historic Review Legislation Update Committee, and Workforce Housing
Partnership of Saratoga County; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed business leader has also participated as a
member of the Schenectady County Chamber of Commerce, Rensselaer County
Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Business Association, as well as a
Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Saratoga Program Expert
Panelist; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Sonny Bonacio has served on Saratoga's All-American
Celebration Committee, Saratoga Bridges Annual Gala Planning Committee
Chairpersons, and continues to participate as an Honorary Chairperson
for numerous charitable organizations in Saratoga Springs; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Sonny Bonacio
has been presented with the 2013 Albany Business Review Game Changer
Award, the 2012 American Planning Association Upstate Chapter Planning
Excellence for Sustaining Places, and both THE SARATOGIAN's 2002 20
Under 40 Achievement Award, and the CAPITAL DISTRICT BUSINESS REVIEW's
2001 40 Under 40 Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Julie, and their
three children, Gianna, William, and Luca, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Sonny Bonacio has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sonny Bonacio has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sonny Bonacio upon the occasion of being named the 2016 ChangeMak-
er by the Capital Region Chamber; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sonny Bonacio.
