LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Mount Peter
Ski Area on February 20, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by the
availability of exceptional recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 80th Anniversary of Mount Peter Ski Area which was celebrated
on Saturday, February 20, 2016, in Warwick, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion was feted with numerous family
events during the day including a Magic Show, Fun Race Duel Slalom, Rail
Jam, and Obstacle Course, as well as music supplied by a DJ Jay Bird;
evening activities featured a performance by the band, Tangent, followed
by a torchlight parade and fireworks; and
WHEREAS, The oldest ski area in New York State, Mount Peter was found-
ed in 1936 by Macy's Department Store, as a way to showcase its ski
fashion; what began as a savvy marketing tool has since grown to become
a cherished area institution for people of all ages; and
WHEREAS, For the past eight decades, Mount Peter has delighted multi-
ple generations of skiers and taught residents of the Empire State a new
love for winter; and
WHEREAS, One of the few remaining family operated ski areas in the
country, Mount Peter is known for its famous Free Beginner Ski and Snow-
board School, as well as for such features as its exceptional snowmaking
and top-notch racing and development programs; and
WHEREAS, During the 2015-2016 season, Mount Peter has added a desig-
nated tubing area, and an improved Snowbasin Learning Area; the resort
has also added a new Carpet Lift and Sunkid Carousel; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Mount Peter Ski Area over the years is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its ownership and staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this institution and the commu-
nity it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of the Mount Peter Ski Area and recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, fully confident that it
will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Mount Peter Ski Area on February 20,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mount Peter Ski Area.
