LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing the natural beauty of the South Trek
of The Hudson Trail, the southern portion of a long trail which links
New York City to the Greater Adirondacks

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of this great Empire State is significantly
enriched and consistently served by the purposeful endeavors of those
who remain committed to the preservation of our natural environment and
the enhancement of appreciation for the distinctive features of our
natural surroundings; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
the natural beauty of the South Trek of The Hudson Trail, the southern
portion of a long trail which links New York City to the Greater Adiron-
dacks; and
WHEREAS, The South Trek of The Hudson Trail is a hiking path which
connects The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail in southern Yonkers to the Town
of Fishkill, overlaying existing trails and making use of public roads;
and
WHEREAS, The South Trek of The Hudson Trail uses portions of the Old
Croton Aqueduct, the Colabaugh Corridor to Blue Mountain Park with side
trails to Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain; it continues from Blue Mountain
Reservation to Pleasantside, then north through roads to Fahnestock
Park, up over Candlewood Hill; and
WHEREAS, The South Trek crosses on Sunken Mine Road north on Charcoal
Burners trail, then west on a cross trail to Schoolhouse Mountain Road
crossing Route 9 at McKeels Corners and continuing on local roads to the
Old Carriage Road up and over Mount Taurus, and the South and North
Beacon Mountains in the Town of Fishkill; and
WHEREAS, The Hudson Trail will consist of four grand sections called
treks, each approximately 80 miles, including: The South Trek, Yonkers
to the Town of Fishkill; The Stissing Trek, Beacon to Brainard; The Bend
Trek, Crossing the Hudson; and The North Trek, which ends at the summit
of Mount Marcy; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize and pay just
tribute to South Trek of The Hudson Trail for its natural beauty and for
providing the citizens of New York as well as visitors from other states
with an attractive trail full of breathtaking views of mountains, roll-
ing farmland and spectacular streams and woods to enjoy while walking,
hiking, running or biking; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize the natural beauty of the South Trek of The Hudson Trail, the
southern portion of a long trail which links New York City to the Great-
er Adirondacks; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Friends of The Hudson Trail.
