LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kaela Hilaire upon the occasion of
becoming a member of the 2,000 point club, one of the most exclusive
groups on Long Island

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Kaela
Hilaire upon the occasion of becoming a member of the 2,000 point club,
one of the most exclusive groups on Long Island; this remarkable athlete
is the 22nd player in Long Island's basketball history to reach this
elusive milestone; and
WHEREAS, Kaela Hilaire, a senior guard for the Floral Park High School
Varsity Basketball Team, recorded her 2,029th career point in her team's
76-64 victory over Island Trees High School in a Nassau Class A Quarter-
final game; and
WHEREAS, During the game, Kaela Hilaire led all scorers with 44
points; the highest scorer in Long Island, she averages 29.7 points per
game, and 10 assists; and
WHEREAS, Committed to play at the State University of New York at
Albany next year, Kaela Hilaire began playing basketball in seventh
grade; throughout many years of dedicated practice, she is truly a
triple threat, with the ability to shoot the three pointer, drive to the
basket, and find her teammates with incredibly athletic passes; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Kaela Hilaire is due in
great part to the efforts of Head Coach Michael Spina, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Kaela Hilaire's performance throughout the season has been
outstanding and she was loyally and enthusiastically supported by fami-
ly, fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
exemplary athlete now stands honorably, with just pride in her accom-
plishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding
and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by her coaches,
teachers, and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kaela Hilaire upon the occasion of becoming a member of the
2,000 point club, one of the most exclusive groups on Long Island; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kaela Hilaire.
