LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Nathaniel Clark upon the occasion
of celebrating his 102nd Birthday on February 14, 2016
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Nathan-
iel Clark upon the occasion of his 102nd Birthday which he celebrated on
Valentine's Day, Sunday, February 14, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Clark was born on February 14, 1914, as the young-
est of three sons, in Marlborough, New York; and
WHEREAS, After completing his studies at the Lewis Hotel Training
School in Washington, D.C., Nathaniel Clark went to work for the Hotel
Moody in Claremont, New Hampshire; and
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Clark later returned to Marlborough and worked as a
laborer with various companies, including the De Laval Separator Company
in Poughkeepsie; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, In 1941, Nathaniel Clark married his loving wife, the former
Audrey Masterjohn, and shortly after, was drafted into the United States
Army to serve in the second World War; and
WHEREAS, After training in Georgia and Texas, Nathaniel Clark was
assigned overseas; he arrived in France on September 2, 1945, the same
day the Japanese surrendered; and
WHEREAS, Upon the conclusion of the war, Nathaniel Clark returned home
and began working at his father-in-law's store, Masterjohn Food Market,
where he would eventually take over operations; the store closed in
1957, during which time he began working as a carpenter until his
retirement in the mid-1970s; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Nathaniel Clark has enriched the
lives of those around him through his joyous and sincere love for others
and through the quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a full-
ness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Nathaniel Clark upon the occasion of celebrating his 102nd
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nathaniel Clark.
