LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso, Ed.D. upon
the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the National
Action Network, West Nassau Chapter, on April 17, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Dr. Mojisola
Adeyi Bafunso upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the National Action Network, West Nassau Chapter, to be cele-
brated at its 3rd Annual Women's Prestigious Gala Awards Dinner held on
Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Chateau Briand Caterers in Carle Place, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The National Action Network's Annual Women's Prestigious Gala
Awards Dinner recognizes outstanding individuals who demonstrate excel-
lence in their work, service and commitment to the Jewish, Nigerian,
Caribbean, Spanish, Haitian and American communities; and
WHEREAS, The West Nassau Chapter, under the able leadership of
District Chairperson Pastor Emmanuel Asse, continues the mission of NAN
which fulfills a vital role in moving our nation forward; and
WHEREAS, Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso came to
the United States as a young woman; in 1989, she started working at Head
Start as a Group Teacher at Medgar Evers Head Start in Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A year later, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso moved to Bedford
Stuyvesant Head Start holding the position of Head Teacher; in 1998, she
continued on this career path at The Miracle Makers Inc.-Bishop Sexton
Head Start serving as Educational Director/Disability Specialist; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso received a Bach-
elor of Arts degree in Psychology from the College of New Rochelle and
two Master's degrees, one in Early Childhood Education and one in
Special Education from The City College of New York, as well as an
Advanced Certificate in Administration/Supervision from the College of
St. Rose in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2002, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso was selected to become
Administrative Director of the Committee for Early Childhood Develop-
ment-Head Start in Hollis, Queens, New York; under her leadership, the
program was the recipient of the 2005 Outstanding Early Childhood
Program Award from the New York State Education Department, Office of
School Improvement and Community Services; the program was accredited by
the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in
2006, and re-accredited in 2012; and
WHEREAS, After an intensive course at the University of California-Los
Angeles in 2007, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso became a Head Start Johnson
& Johnson Management Fellow; a year later, she received a Doctorate in
Education with Specialization in Educational Leadership from North
Central University where she was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi-Alpha
Delta Epsilon Chapter, which is the International Honor Society in
Education; and
WHEREAS, In August of 2008, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso was chosen to
take over the leadership of the Human Resources Center of St. Albans
Head Start Program, which had two sites; she was appointed Executive
Director, and integrated St. Albans Head Start into the Committee for
Early Childhood Development's program as well as taking over the new
site in Jamaica, New York; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso currently operates
three sites in Queens, New York, comprised of 433 children and 90 staff
members representing different cultures and nationalities; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso has been called upon to contribute
her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Active in community outreach, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso is a
member of Christ Apostolic Church in New York City where she serves as a
Deaconess, Youth Coordinator and a Sunday School Teacher; in addition,
she is viewed as a role model for all young women who come in contact
with her as well as a fighter for equal education opportunities for all
children throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Sunday, and her
three children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso, Ed.D. upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the National Action Network, West
Nassau Chapter; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Mojisola Adeyi Bafunso, Ed.D.
