LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lorena Perkins upon the occasion
of celebrating her 102nd Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, this Legislative Body is justly
proud to congratulate Lorena Perkins upon the occasion of celebrating
her 102nd Birthday; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Cattaraugus County, Lorena was born
on January 29, 1914, in the town of Mansfield, New York, to loving
parents, Floyd and Dora Howe; she attended grade school in Conewango
Valley with her five sisters, Viola, Nora, Cecelia, Lillian and Eddie,
and one step-brother, Marion; and
WHEREAS, In 1938, after graduating from high school, Lorena met and
married the love of her life, Eugene Perkins who was a farmer and woods-
man; after the couple wed, she moved into the Perkins' large dairy farm
near Ellicottville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins contributed immeasurably to the family farm as
a homemaker working around the farmhouse, cooking delicious meals for
the family, planting flowers and gardening; and
WHEREAS, After the death of Eugene's father, the farm was sold and the
Perkins family moved to Lincoln Street in Salamanca, New York, where
they lived for 18 years; her husband worked as the head sawyer at Fanch-
er Furniture Company; and
WHEREAS, Lorena and Eugene Perkins were married for 50 wonderful years
and were the loving parents of three children, Joanna, Carol and Allen;
they have been further blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins has always had a love for craft stitching,
regularly exercising and taking care of her parakeets over the years;
she attributes her longevity to living a simple life while never once
drinking or smoking; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins is known by her family, friends and the commu-
nity as a devoted and trustworthy individual who always thinks of others
before herself; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins is beloved by all those who have had the honor
of being in her presence and she has enriched the lives of those around
her through her smile, charm and wisdom which comes only from profound
fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the outstanding inno-
vations, cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this country
during the last century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lorena Perkins upon the occasion of celebrating her 102nd
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lorena Perkins.
