LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION designating the week beginning with March 7,
2016, as Girl Scout Week
WHEREAS, Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts of the USA
on March 12, 1912; and
WHEREAS, Today, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York serves approxi-
mately 10,000 girls, who participate throughout 15 counties in North-
eastern New York with the assistance of more than 5,000 adult volun-
teers; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting is continuing a legacy of ensuring inclusive
leadership in the United States and the world in its second century of
service to girls by providing them with the tools and experiences to
become leaders dedicated to making their local communities, state, coun-
try and the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, Outdoor experiences are an integral part of the Girl Scout
experience for girls of all ages; outdoor activities are woven into the
core development program in such a way that girls feel comfortable
trying new things and testing their limits; such experiences enable them
to gain confidence and acquire new skills in a safe and supportive all-
girl environment; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is committed to ensuring
that all girls have the opportunity to explore, and build an interest
in, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in order to help
them develop vital critical-thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and
collaborative skills; and
WHEREAS, Keeping in mind the worthy goals of ensuring girls' well-be-
ing and of helping communities commit necessary resources to the devel-
opment of girls, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York has launched the
Young Women's Leadership Initiative, offering leadership development
programs to all girls 9-12th grade; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has made girls' financial literacy a high
priority in its programs and activities for more than 100 years and
continues to develop financial empowerment programs for girls in grades
K-12 to ensure the next generation of women have the tools and knowledge
to achieve financial sustainability; and
WHEREAS, Girls in grades nine through twelve who demonstrate extraor-
dinary leadership through action projects that have sustainable impacts
on their communities and beyond are presented with the Girl Scouts Gold
Award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
designate the week beginning with March 7, 2016, as Girl Scout Week; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York.
