LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alba Giordano upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished
Service Award on February 17, 2015

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Alba Giordano has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alba Giordano
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Sister Maureen
Joyce Distinguished Service Award by the Sister Maureen Joyce Center, to
be celebrated at its 3rd Annual Dinner at the Wolferts Roost Country
Club, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, February 17, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished Service Award is given
annually to persons, organizations, and businesses which have demon-
strated commitment to the spirit of the Sister Maureen Joyce Center
through their outreach or advocacy on behalf of the poor and vulnerable;
and
WHEREAS, Alba Giordano is a resident of Delmar, New York, and the
former owner and operator of Plaza Travel in Albany; and
WHEREAS, Recently retired after 45 years working in the travel busi-
ness, this esteemed woman has been active in her parish and a volunteer
in her community for most of her life; and
WHEREAS, Alba Giordano is a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish,
where she has served in such dedicated roles as Lector, Eucharistic
Minister, and Trustee; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Alba Giordano has been involved with the
Ladies of Charity who operate Mary's Corner at the Sister Maureen Joyce
Center in Albany and the Mary's Corner in Cohoes; she has also served on
the Ladies of Charity National Board for four years, and has been a
local Chapter President; and
WHEREAS, Alba Giordano is known for her enthusiasm, warmth, and caring
nature, and is a welcoming presence for those who come to the Sister
Maureen Joyce Center looking for assistance; she has enriched the lives
of many who thought they only needed a meal or a helping hand; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Alba Giordano has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Alba Giordano has displayed throughout
her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alba Giordano upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Sister Maureen Joyce Distinguished Service Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alba Giordano.
