LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Judy and Abe Alper upon the occasion
of being named Guests of Honor at the 44th Annual Testimonial Dinner of
the Young Israel of Plainview on April 3, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals and organizations of remarkable integ-
rity and character who distinguish themselves in service to their faith
and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Judy and Abe Alper upon the occasion of being named Guests of Honor at
the 44th Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young Israel of Plainview to
be celebrated on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at the Jericho Jewish Center,
Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, Abe Alper has been employed by Jewish Theological Seminary in
their Finance Department for 20 years; he also serves as a well-respect-
ed Mashgiach (supervisor) at Star-K, a Kosher Certification company; and
WHEREAS, Since 1983, Abe Alper has been a member of the Young Israel
of Plainview's Kiddush Committee which oversees all food service activ-
ities including preparation and presentation of all catered events at
the Young Israel; for almost three decades, he has held the position of
Chairman of the Committee; and
WHEREAS, Abe Alper is always available to consult, help and offer
advice for anyone making an affair in the Shul; he is the man behind the
scenes that makes everything happen smoothly and he does it with joy and
humility; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Abe Alper has served as a Trustee of the Young
Israel of Plainview Board of Directors for 3 years; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the success of his Shul, Abe Alper enjoy repair-
ing and painting the building and has assisted at numerous garage sales;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1986, Abe Alper has held the position of Eruv Checker;
in this capacity, he played an integral part in helping the Eruv Commit-
tee expand the footprint of the Eruv; this remarkable man is also
involved with the community Mikvah, serving as a Trustee of the Mikvah
Association of Long Island for several years; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Judy Alper holds the esteemed position of Director
of Jewish Family Education, and for the last 20 years, she served as a
Religious School Teacher at The Plainview Jewish Center; for more than a
decade, she has been a Teacher's Assistant at The Hebrew Academy of
Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Judy Alper held the title of PTA Executive Vice
President for two years, and was the Purim Carnival Chairperson for
three years; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Judy Alper has been extremely active in the
Sisterhood of The Young Israel of Plainview, and has served in several
leadership roles such as Co-President, Treasurer and Corresponding
Secretary; and
WHEREAS, For a period of time, Judy Alper coordinated the Shul news-
letter and played a vital role in her Shul serving as the volunteer
office helper for Rabbi Portnoy A'H; in addition, she was the National
Council of Young Israel Representative for two years; and
WHEREAS, Judy and Abe Alper are the proud parents of five children,
Sara (Eliyahu), Debra (Benji), Chani (Jonah), Michelle, and Ariella; two

nephews, Joey and David; and 14 grandchildren, Yeshaya Yosef, Aharon
Nechemya, Levi Yitzchak, Malya Bina, Chana Meira, Eliezer Yehudah,
Katie, Davey, Emily, Aryeh, Esti, Elisheva, Atara Tova, and Maya; all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Judy and Abe Alper have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Judy and Abe Alper upon the occasion of being named Guests of
Honor at the 44th Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young Israel of
Plainview on April 3, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judy and Abe Alper.
