LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Variety
Child Learning Center, on April 15, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations committed to enhancing the quality of
education in the State of New York, enabling our schools to set and meet
standards for excellence in academic achievement for all students; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Variety Child Learning Center, to be
celebrated on Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Crest Hollow Country Club,
Woodbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1966, by Judith Bloch, a respected academic with
extensive practical experience in social work, Variety Child Learning
Center (VCLC) was created as one of the first therapeutic preschools on
Long Island for children with learning, language and behavior problems;
and
WHEREAS, Through its 50 year history, VCLC has expanded to include
children from birth up to age eight at two sites while maintaining its
focus on fostering a nurturing environment based on the latest research
and methodologies; and
WHEREAS, VCLC's comprehensive programs in special education, speech,
occupational therapy and physical therapy as well as various other
services begin when children are very young; these invaluable programs
have helped thousands of children reach their potential, and in many
cases exceed the expectations of their parents; and
WHEREAS, VCLC's unique support system which encompasses a low
student-teacher ratio, offers close, personal attention to each student
from a caring, dedicated and expertly trained staff; in addition, it
takes pride in its partnership with families, offering them special
programs, resources and support, maintaining an open-school policy, and
encouraging family visits to its sites; and
WHEREAS, Beginning its next luminous half century, VCLC's goal is to
provide students and families with modern facilities, state-of-the-art
technology and the most innovative programs; VCLC aims to advance chil-
dren's skills and promote their development so that they can be inte-
grated into the community; and
WHEREAS, With a proven track record, VCLC will continue to change the
lives of the children who come through its doors, preparing them for
life long success; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to now record its
recognition and appreciation in honoring this outstanding educational
organization, whose half century dedication and accomplishments have
been instrumental in empowering the most vulnerable students, and devel-
oping academic excellence across the spectrum of education; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Variety Child Learning Center,
and to wish it continued success in its laudable mission; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Variety Child Learning Center.
