LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas Dvorak upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Independent Sector Community Service
Award by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 7, 2016
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicholas Dvorak upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Independent Sector Community Service Award by Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute on Monday, March 7, 2016; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) studying
Chemical Engineering with a minor in Management and Technology, Nicholas
Dvorak is a perfect example of the next generation of leaders and agents
of change; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Nicholas Dvorak is engaged in life-changing
research with the Department of Chemical Engineering, focusing on the
use of engineered Titanium Dioxide nano particles to target and disrupt
cancer cells' metastasis; and
WHEREAS, In addition to this innovative project, Nicholas Dvorak
worked on other ventures which supported the Department of Astrobiology
and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences; and
WHEREAS, As a student, Nicholas Dvorak holds the esteemed position of
President of the Rensselaer Union; in this capacity, he chairs a 20
member Union Executive Board and actively manages an operating budget in
excess of $8 million, including businesses, clubs, and NCAA teams; and
WHEREAS, An incredible asset to the RPI community, Nicholas Dvorak
enjoys tutoring his fellow students in Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and
Beginning Programming; he has also served as an Undergraduate Mentor and
Teacher's Assistant, Treasurer of the Rensselaer Interfraternity Coun-
cil, Vice President of Finance for Sigma Phi Epsilon, Coordinator of the
1987 Gym, both President and Treasurer of UPAC Lights, and was a member
of the Indoor Track Men's team for three years; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young man received the Rensselaer Medalist
for his excellence in science and mathematics and Rensselaer President's
Grant for his strong work ethic, high character values, academic
achievement and diverse experiences; honored as a member of the Tau Beta
Pi Engineering Honor Society and Rensselaer's Dean's List each semester
of attendance, Nicholas Dvorak is truly deserving of this auspicious
award; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Dvorak is a perfect example of what RPI has termed
Communiversity; which is a core theme of Clustered Learning, Advocacy,
and Support for Students or CLASS at Rensselaer where students are
encouraged to develop a strong sense of civic engagement and social
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Nicholas Dvorak has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas Dvorak upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Independent Sector Community Service Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas Dvorak.
