LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kitt Jackson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Carlyle Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith
Award by the Capital Area Council of Churches
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Kitt Jackson has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kitt Jackson
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Carlyle Adams
Ecumenical and Interfaith Award by the Capital Area Council of Churches,
celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the
Albany Country Club, Voorheesville, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Capital Area Council of Churches, a fellowship of more
than 85 faith communities in the Capital District, provides a wide range
of services and programs dedicated to bringing congregations together in
solidarity to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and provide ecumeni-
cal and interreligious education, advocacy and worship; and
WHEREAS, The Carlyle Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith Award is
presented to an individual who has worked to bring the message of
ecumenical or interfaith unity and harmony to his or her congregation
and the wider community through activism and projects which exhibit the
inclusive spirit of the late Dr. Carlyle Adams; and
WHEREAS, Kitt Jackson has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Altamont Reformed Church, Kitt Jack-
son has served as an Elder, Bible Study and Sunday School teacher, and
has led numerous women's retreats; she was instrumental in the organiza-
tion of mission trips to Apache, Oklahoma, Project Hospitality in Staten
Island, and the Japanese American United Church in Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast advocate for the hungry, Kitt Jackson has worked
for the Capital Area Council of Churches since 1997, as an Administra-
tive Director; she is active in the Faith and Hunger Network, serves as
a member of Bread for the World, and chairs the Albany CROP Hunger Walk
Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she has participated in the Guilderland Inter-
faith Council, the Capital Region Ecumenical Organization, the Labor-Re-
ligion Coalition and the Schenectady Inner City Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Kitt Jackson has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Kitt Jackson has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kitt Jackson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Carlyle Adams Ecumenical and Interfaith Award by the Capital Area
Council of Churches; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kitt Jackson.
