LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Amos Cambron, decorated
World War II Veteran, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Amos Cambron, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community, on Wednesday, March 2, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Amos Cambron, affectionately known as Andy, is remembered as
an upstanding citizen, loving family man, and decorated World War II
Veteran; and
WHEREAS, Andy Cambron proudly enlisted in the United States Army,
traveling from Arizona to New York for his training; he proudly served
as a Corporal with the 47th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 5th
Armored Division, where he learned to be a motorcycle messenger and
later excelled as a Sherman tank driver; and
WHEREAS, He traversed across the Atlantic to England in 1940, complet-
ing several months of rigorous training with his fellow soldiers of the
5th Armored Division and later stormed Utah Beach in Normandy with his
unit on D-Day, valiantly pushing forward when his fellow soldiers were
killed by an explosion; and
WHEREAS, Andy Cambron fought in and survived several of the most dead-
ly engagements of World War II, including the Battles of Hurtgen Forest
and the Battle of the Bulge; in addition, he was one of the first
soldiers to reach and assist in the liberation of Paris, Luxembourg,
Belgium, and several Nazi concentration camps; and
WHEREAS, For his meritorious service, quick thinking, bravery, and
good-hearted nature, Andy Cambron received many awards and accolades
including the Bronze Star and the Silver Star, and was inducted into the
New York State Veterans Hall of Fame in 2014; and
WHEREAS, A true family man, Andy Cambron will be fondly remembered as
a loving son, brother, husband, and father; he is survived by one daugh-
ter, Carol; and two sons, David and Ron; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Andy Cambron leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Amos Cambron, decorated World War II Veteran, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of the Greater Adams Center communi-
ty; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Amos Cambron.
