LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating John Sileno, Class of 1966, upon
the occasion of his induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late John Sileno, Class of 1966, upon the occasion of his induction into
the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was celebrated at
a ceremony held on Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
distinguished individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in
athletics or service, have made lasting contributions to its sports
program and the overall community; and
WHEREAS, A 1966 graduate of SUNY Orange, John Sileno was a standout
men's basketball player throughout the 1964-1965 and 1965-1966 seasons
with the Colts; and
WHEREAS, During his playing career, John Sileno helped the SUNY Orange
Colts reach the championship game of the Region XV Tournament in 1966;
and
WHEREAS, A gifted basketball player, John Sileno averaged 27.8 points
per game, 17.2 rebounds per game and 10.2 assists per game in his first
season; he was also named the 1965 Region XV Tournament Most Valuable
Player and was an honorable mention All-America selection despite play-
ing just nine games; and
WHEREAS, In addition, John Sileno led all of Region XV in assists, and
scored 37 points against Queensboro on February 21, 1965; and
WHEREAS, In his last season, John Sileno appeared in 30 games, and was
second on the team in scoring with 20.9 points per game; he also led the
team in rebounding with 11.8 rebounds per game, and finished his SUNY
Orange career with 902 points in 39 games and a 22.6 points per game
average; and
WHEREAS, Athletes like John Sileno provide a tremendous service to the
future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-ath-
letes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, John Sileno has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and John Sileno has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John Sileno, Class of 1966, upon the occasion of his
induction into the 2015 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Sileno.
