LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring four individuals upon the occasion of
their designation as recipients of the Humanitarian Award after saving
the life of an 11-year old girl
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring, concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished values,
worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is proud to honor individ-
uals who would serve to protect it, lauding particularly one who would
clearly endanger his own life and safety on behalf of that cause; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor four
individuals upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Humanitarian Award after saving the life of an 11-year old girl; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the Evans-Brant
Chamber of Commerce's Annual President's Award and Recognition Dinner on
Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Pioneer Camp and Retreat Center, Angola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This year, three members of the Evans Police Department,
Lieutenant Bradley DiMartino, Officer Jeffrey DeVinney and Officer
Gregory Szarowicz, as well as Highland Hose Volunteer Fire Company Lieu-
tenant Phil Schott, are being recognized for their fearless courage and
determination; and
WHEREAS, These four residents of Evans, New York, responded to a call
at Wendt Beach on July 30, 2015; due to their heroic efforts and grace
under pressure, these four extraordinary men were able to save the life
of an 11-year old girl; and
WHEREAS, Evans Police Lieutenant Bradley DiMartino, Officer Jeffrey
DeVinney, Officer Gregory Szarowicz, and Highland Hose Lieutenant Phil
Schott should be meritoriously commended for remaining calm under pres-
sure and for showing valor and true courage while performing a lifesav-
ing deed; and
WHEREAS, Through their spontaneous and heroic actions, these four men
demonstrated their character and compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of their actions, the collective concern of
citizens across the community of New York State who voluntarily respond
without the thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor four individuals upon the occasion of their designation as recipi-
ents of the Humanitarian Award after saving the life of an 11-year old
girl; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Evans Police Lieutenant Bradley DiMartino, Officer Jeffrey
DeVinney, Officer Gregory Szarowicz, and Highland Hose Lieutenant Phil
Schott.
