LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Salvatore Casciola upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to the New
York State Department of Labor
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Salvatore Casciola upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service to the New York State Department of Labor to be
celebrated with a party held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at La Familglia
Restaurant in Plainview, New York; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore Casciola began his illustrious public sector career
working as a Vocational Education Instructor with the New York State
Department of Correction at the Long Island Correctional Facility in
1985; and
WHEREAS, In 1987, Salvatore Casciola was transferred to Arthur Kill
Correctional where he ably served as a Vocational Educator IV; during
this time, he was assigned to project manage inmate work crews and
spearheaded the training of three reception centers utilizing trained
work crews; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore Casciola's work training inmates led to the hiring
of numerous ex-felons upon release; his determined efforts were recog-
nized by both the Division of Parole and private industry; and
WHEREAS, After becoming interested in union politics, Salvatore Casci-
ola ran against a 25-year incumbent on a platform of Health and Safety,
and was elected as a 318 steward for the New York State Public Employees
Federation Representative; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Salvatore Casciola was appointed to organize and run
the Long Island Health and Safety committee Region 12 where he displayed
a tremendous commitment to safeguarding all employees in an effort to
eliminate the potential of on-the-job injury and illness; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Salvatore Casciola helped facilitate a Grant
from OSHA in conjunction with State Wide Health and Safety to vent out
all Vocational/Education classrooms; and
WHEREAS, Following his appointment as Co-Chair of the New York State
Article 18 Health and Safety Committee, Salvatore Casciola facilitated
mandatory statewide TB testing of all state employees and inmates; and
WHEREAS, Salvatore Casciola has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Salvatore Casciola was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
he has earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Salvatore Casciola upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the New York State Department of
Labor, and to wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Salvatore Casciola.
