LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Elisabeth "Bettie" Tompsett upon
the occasion of celebrating her 103rd Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
103rd birthday of Elisabeth "Bettie" Tompsett; and
WHEREAS, Bettie Tompsett was born on June 26, 1912, on a farm in the
Town of Arkwright to Maud and Joseph Butcher; she graduated from the
high school in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, at the age of 16; and
WHEREAS, Bettie Tompsett attended college at Edinboro University and
graduated in 1931 with an associate's degree; she then attended and
graduated with a degree in elementary education from SUNY Fredonia; and
WHEREAS, Bettie Tompsett began her illustrious teaching career in a
one-room school house for the salary of $25 per week plus room and
board; she taught for 10 years before her children were born and then 10
years after her children were grown before retiring in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Bettie Tompsett and her husband, Wayne, raised two children,
Nancy and James; today, she is the proud grandmother of seven grandchil-
dren, Mark, Amy, Christopher, Scott, Lisa, Kevin, and Nicole; 14 great-
grandchildren, Olivia, Brielle, Caden, Bella, Nolan, Lucinda, Jordan,
Brendan, Dylan, William, Alexander, Benjamin, Camille, and Kingston; and
one great-great-grandchild, Blake; and
WHEREAS, Bettie Tompsett's favorite pastimes include reading, attend-
ing Retired Teacher Association meetings, participating in various
church activities, and visiting with family; she is known by many as a
team builder, an excellent and popular teacher who encourages life-long
learning, and a devoted family woman; she is also the proud descendant
of a signer of the Mayflower Compact, Richard Warren, in addition to the
direct descendent of soldiers of both the Revolutionary War and the
Civil War; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her spirit and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elisabeth "Bettie" Tompsett upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing her 103rd Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elisabeth "Bettie" Tompsett.
