LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joseph A. Paslow posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer County
at its Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on July 11, 2016
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joseph A. Paslow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran
Ceremony on Monday, July 11, 2016; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
Joseph A. Paslow will be recognized at this year's July Honor-A-De-
ceased-Veteran Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Born April 5, 1927, to the late Anthony and Anna (Procak)
Paslowski, Joseph A. Paslow graduated from Troy High School and attended
Siena College; on July 16, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army;
and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Paslow valiantly served his country as an Auto
Mechanic during World War II; on January 2, 1947, he was honorably
discharged; and
WHEREAS, For his meritorious service, Joseph A. Paslow was the recipi-
ent of the World War II Victory Medal; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Paslow was employed as a tool and gauge designer at
the Watervliet Arsenal for 23 years, a position from which he retired in
1979; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Watervliet, Joseph A. Paslow was a faithful
member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, where he was a long
time member of the Choir; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community in which he lived and worked,
Joseph A. Paslow served as a paramedic with the former Riverside Ambu-
lance, and was a life member of the Schuyler Heights Fire Company, where
he held several leadership titles such as Fire Police Captain, Chaplain
and Commissioner; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joseph A. Paslow participated in many volunteer
firematic associations including HVVFA, HMVFA, FASNY, NYSAFC, and VFPA-
NY; he also was a member of the American Legion and the Watervliet Lodge
of Elks, and served as a Boy Scout Leader; and
WHEREAS, An avid golfer, devoted family man and hard worker, Joseph A.
Paslow died on March 28, 2002, at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Kelly Paslow, and
his second wife, M. Roslyn Bleau Paslow, one son, Kim A. Paslow; two
brothers, Timothy and John; and four sisters, Rose, Kathryn, Jessie and
Mary; Joseph A. Paslow is survived by his son, Kelly (Pam); one daugh-
ter, Lynne (Paul); four grandchildren, Justin, Kalyn, Joseph and Kimber-
ly; and a sister, Eugenia; as well as several nieces, nephews and cous-
ins; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joseph A. Paslow posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Deceased-
Veteran Ceremony on July 11, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph A. Paslow.
