LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Friends of
Schenectady County Public Library to be celebrated on April 16, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Friends of Schenectady County Public
Library to be celebrated on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at River Stone
Manor, Glenville, New York, with entertainment by The Mop & Bucket
Improv Theatre Company; and
WHEREAS, Libraries are the cornerstone of the community, providing
opportunities for all to engage in lifelong learning and connecting with
others; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Schenectady County Public Library help to raise
money that provides resources for programming, equipment, support for
youth services, and special events throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Schenectady County Public Library understands the
importance of a well-funded library and advocates to ensure its library
gets the resources needed to provide a wide variety of services to all
ages including access to print and electronic materials, expert assist-
ance in research, readers' advisory, and youth services; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Schenectady County Public Library also provides
in-kind services for programming, building and grounds care, and repre-
sentation at events; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated members of Friends of Schenectady County Public
Library demonstrate how volunteerism can lead to positive civic engage-
ment and the betterment of local communities; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Schenectady County Public Library is in
direct correlation to the efforts of Friends of Schenectady County
Public Library, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompro-
mising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the library
and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Schenectady
County Public Library may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as
it looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Friends of Schenectady County Public
Library to be celebrated on April 16, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Friends of Schenectady County Public Library.
