LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sew What's New Fabric Center of Nyack,
New York, upon the occasion of celebrating almost five decades of
outstanding service to its community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of small businesses
which generously contribute to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Sew What's New Fabric Center of Nyack, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating almost five decades of outstanding service to its community;
and
WHEREAS, Sew What's New Fabric Center was established nearly a half-
century ago, by its beloved founder, Bebe Lefkowitz, who opened the shop
in the basement of her Orangeburg home selling samples her husband,
Albie, brought home from his job in New York City's Garment District;
and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Sew What's New has strived to fulfill the
fabric and design needs of its customers at several different locations,
before finally settling into its current 6,000-square-foot building on
Nyack's upper Main Street; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, this unique fashion emporium experienced the loss of
its owner, Bebe Lefkowitz, a talented, humorous and eccentric business-
woman who would spend hours regaling customers with her life story while
coaching them through their design projects; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Sew What's New Fabric Center has been managed by
Susan Lefkowitz, and looked after by longtime employees, Tara Fitzgerald
and Manuel Vasquez, who came to the store 18 years ago from El Salvador;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the past five decades, Sew What's New Fabric
Center, along with its owners, and employees, has been an integral part
of the Nyack and Rockland County communities; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the local and
state economies; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sew What's New Fabric Center of Nyack, New York, upon the occa-
sion of celebrating almost five decades of outstanding service to its
community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Susan Lefkowitz, Tara Fitzgerald and Manuel Vasquez, Sew
What's New Fabric Center.
