LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Allen A. MacRoberts posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition by Rensselaer
County at its Honor-A-Deceased-Veteran Ceremony on October 11, 2016
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace
time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Allen A. MacRoberts posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-Deceased-
Veteran Ceremony to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the
Rensselaer County Office Building's Hall of Heroes, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born July 9, 1940, in Troy, New York, Allen A. MacRoberts was
one of two children born to Elliott and Hazel (Hamilton) MacRoberts; he
attended Troy Public Schools and Troy High School; and
WHEREAS, Allen A. MacRoberts served his country as a member of the
United States Navy serving aboard the USS Bristol, and was a member of
the Seabees MCB74 during the Vietnam era; and
WHEREAS, Allen A. MacRoberts' exceptional and courageous service
earned him the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation,
Navy Achievement Medal with Combat "V", Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam
Service Medal with Bronze Star as well as the Vietnam Campaign Medal
with Device Combat Operations Insignia; and
WHEREAS, After his discharge, Allen A. MacRoberts worked for the Ford
Motor Company in Green Island, New York, for 30 years as a machine oper-
ator in the Radiator Department; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Allen A. MacRoberts was a life
member of both the American Legion, Post 1489, in Wynantskill, New York,
and the VFW, Post 729, in Watervliet, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Allen A. MacRoberts served as a member of the
Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 1489, the Seabees of America, the
C.R.A.B Club of Troy, the USS Bristol Association, the U.A.W., as well
as a founding member of the Hudson River Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Known for his devotion to his family, especially his children
and grandchildren, Allen A. MacRoberts enjoyed watching his grandchil-
dren play sports and fishing; and
WHEREAS, Allen A. MacRoberts died on Friday, March 13, 2015, at the
age of 74; and
WHEREAS, Allen A. MacRoberts is survived by his loving wife, Judy
(Hull) MacRoberts; three wonderful children, Kelley, Bob and Allen; two
treasured grandchildren, Kara and Samantha; and his three great-grand-
children, Kaydence, Bane and Harper; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Allen A. MacRoberts posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor-A-De-
ceased-Veteran Ceremony on October 11, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Allen A. MacRoberts.
